Report Number

Year of Publication

Abstract

New South Associates of Stone Mountain, Georgia conducted a Phase I cultural resources survey within the proposed Hamilton Mill Road widening corridor between August 17 and August 23, 1994. This survey was prompted by plans to widen approximately 4.8 miles of Hamilton Mill Road between Bogan Road and SR 124 in Gwinnett County, Georgia. Two prehistoric isolated finds, four historic isolated finds, and one historic site (Site 9Gw69) were discovered by this survey. All six isolated finds are recommended as ineligible for nomination to the National Register of Historic Places and no additional work is recommended. 9Gw69 contains both historic archaeological and pre-1940standing structure components. While the historic archaeological component is not recommended as eligible for the national Register, a full determination of eligibility must await an assessment of the standing structure component. Site significance determinations with regards to historic buildings are being undertaken by Greenhorne and O'Mara as a separate study.
