Abstract

Archeological Assessment of a Randolph County Resurfacing Project. This proposed project is located on SR 1/US 27, beginning at the Clay/Randolph county line, and ending approximately 1252 feet south of the intersection of SR 1 Business (M.P. 9.20), in the City of Cuthbert, Randolph County, Georgia. This project proposes to construct and pave 2 feet of the existing shoulders, left and right, to be followed by resurfacing. Earth shoulders are to be reconstructed from a maximum distance of 4 feet from the edge of new pavement. The existing right-of-way is approximately 100 feet. No additional right-of-way will be required. Total project length is 9.20 miles

Pursuant to the February 2000 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Federal Highway Administration (FHW A), the State Historic Preservation Officer of the Georgia Department of Natural Resources (SHPO), and the Georgia Department of Transportation, this project is considered an undertaking as defined in 36 CFR 800.16(y), however, it has been determined there is no potential to affect historic properties included in or considered eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places.

The proposed project would improve SR 1/US 27 beginning at the Clay/Randolph county line (MP 0.00) and ending approximately 1252 feet south of the intersection of SR 1 BU(MP 9.20). This project would construct and pave 2-feet of the existing shoulders, left and right to be followed by resurfacing. Earth shoulders are to be reconstructed from a maximum distance of 4-feet from the edge of new pavement for the purpose of providing a smooth grade transition. Existing typical section consist of two travel lanes with a pavement width that varies from 24- 36 feet. Existing right-of-way is approximately 100 feet. No additional right-of-way would be required. Total length of this project would be approximately 9.20 miles.
