Abstract

"In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, the proposed project has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) . The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project's area of potential environmental effect.

The proposed project would replace the existing bridge on S.R.87 over the Southern Railroad in Cochran. In addition, a left turn lane and right deceleration lane would be provided at the entrance to Middle Georgia College. Existing right-of-way varies from 60 feet (18. 29 meters) to a maximum of 100 feet (30.48 meters). Additional right-of-way for the above project would vary from a minimum of 15 feet (4.57 meters) to 165 feet (50.29 meters). An archaeological survey was conducted for the entire 0.34 mile (0.55 kilometer) length of the proposed project corridor.
