"In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project BHN-043-1 (56), Richmond County, has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect.
The proposed project would consist of widening the existing parallel bridges on SR 4/US 1 over Butler Creek in Richmond County, approximately 7 miles north of Hephzibah. During construction, SR 4/US 1
would remain open, utilizing staged construction. The project would begin approximately 350 feet south of
Butler Creek and end approximately 550 north of the creek, for a project distance of approximately 900 feet. Existing right-of-way along SR 4/US 1 is approximately 200 feet. All proposed work would be done within existing right-of-way. An archaeological survey consistent with the project description was conducted for the entire length of the project corridor.
