Abstract

Archeological Assessment of a Glynn County lighting project. This project proposes to install sea turtle friendly lighting to the Sidney Lanier Bridge, located along US 17 in Glynn County, Georgia. The new lighting will be used to light up the towers of the bridge from November 1 through April 30, at which time it will be the responsibility of the GDOT to turn off the lights for the beginning of sea turtle nesting season. No additional right-of-way is required for the implementation of this project.

CSMLP-0006-00(018) proposes to install sea turtle friendly lighting to the Sidney Lanier Bridge located along US 17/Jekyll Island Causeway in Glynn County. The project proposes to light the towers of the bridge with sixteen 1,000-watt floods. These floods would be high-pressure sodium lights and will have a glass amber shield. These lights will remain on the entire year. To light the cables, 136 250-watt high-pressure sodium lights will be installed. These lights will only be on beginning November 1 through April 30. The Department will be responsible for assuring that the cable lighting is turned off on May 1 for the beginning of sea turtle nesting season.
