Abstract

Cultural resources surveys have been completed for portions of Compartments 644and 647 on the Toccoa Ranger District, Chattahoochee National Forest. These surveys were completed during the first quarter of FY93 as part of the general Forest cultural resources inventory in response to planned timber sales on the Toccoa Ranger District. These two compartments are located in the southeastern portion of the district near Alex Mountain in Fannin County. The survey was a reconnaissance level survey of 250 acres in stands 5, 6, 11, 12, 14, 16, and 19 in Compartment 644, and 115 acres in stands 19, 20, and 21 in Compartment 647. Four sites are located in these units; three of these are prehistoric lithic scatters and is an one historic house site. As a result of the disturbed nature of these sites, they are not eligible for the National Register.
