Abstract

Brockington and Associates, Inc., conducted cultural resources survey and archaeological site evaluation of the proposed Robins Air Force Base (RAAB) gas pipeline between 17 and 21 May 1993. Project goals included location and evaluation of all archaeological resources which might be impacted by proposed construction activities. Historical research consisted of examination of relevant archival resources. Field survey involved pedestrian coverage of the entire length of the project corridor, measuring approximately 15.2 mile long and 50 feet wide. Screened shovel testing and visual inspection of exposed ground surface were the primary methods used to locate and evaluate archaeological resources. Cultural resources survey of the proposed RAAB gas pipeline corridor resulted in the identification and evaluation of nine archaeological sites and sixteen isolated finds. None of the recorded sites (9TVV89, 9TW90, 9TW91, 9TW92, 9TW93, 9TW94, 9TW95, 9TW96, and 9TW97) are considered significant, and all are recommended ineligible for the NRHP. No additional cultural resource investigations are required at these sites or at the isolated finds. Cultural resources clearance for construction of the RAAB gas pipeline is recommended.
