Abstract

"In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project NH-985-1(322), Hall County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) . The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect.

Project NH- 985-1(322) would widen SR 53 as part of the reconstruction of the existing I-985 / SR 53 interchange in Hall County. Also, the project would widen SR 13 in Hall County. The proposed project would widen SR 53 from a four lane to a six lane facility from the Frontage Road at I-985 to a point approximately 650 meters (2,133 feet) south of the SR 13 intersection. SR 13 would be widened from a point approximately 457 meters (1,500 feet) north of I-985 southerly to a point approximately 305 meters (1,000 feet) south of SR 53. The existing right-of-way on SR 53 varies from 25 to 91 meters (82 to 299 feet). Additional required right-of-way would vary from 45 to 50 meters (148 to 164 feet). The existing right-of-way on SR 13 is approximately 25 meters (82 feet) . Additional required right-of-way would be approximately 40 meters (131 feet) . The existing right-of-way along I-985 is approximately 91 meters (299 feet). Additional required right-of-way would vary from approximately 91 to 185 meters (299 to 607 feet). An archaeological survey consistent with the project description was conducted for the entire length of the project corridor.
