Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project STP-M001-00(853), Sumter/Crisp Counties, has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect.

The proposed project would remove the old SR 30fUS 280 bridge over Lake Blackshear at the Sumter/Crisp County line. The bridge has already been replaced on new alignment approximately 15 feet north of the existing bridge. The replacement bridge was built in 1984 under project BRF-030-2(6). The old bridge is supported by timber piles and is leaning toward the new bridge.
