Abstract

Cultural heritage resources surveys have been completed for planned timber sales and recreation projects on the Toccoa Ranger District, Chattahoochee National Forest. These surveys were completed during the summer and fall of 1993 as part of the general Forest cultural resources inventory prior to ground disturbing activities. Portions of eleven compartments were examined: 615, 645, 667, 674, 676, 677, 678, 679, 680, 692, and 694. Several other projects were surveyed during the year as well. These include salvage areas in response to Southern Pine Beetle infestation, Hawk Mountain Appalachian Trail shelter, Lakewood Landing expansion, Deep Hole campground expansion, and Aska Road Recreation Area trails. These areas are scattered within Fannin, Gilmer, and Union Counties. A total of 928 acres were surveyed and 14 sites were located, and eight are recommended potentially eligible for the National Register.
