Archaeological Evaluation of Project TSAP-18(1), Jones County

Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, GDOT Project TSAP- 18(1), J ones County, has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources , especially those in or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) . The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify, and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project corridor. Project TSAP 18(1), Jones County, consist s of the new location construction of a connect or road from S.R. 22/U.S . 129 southwest of Gray to S.R. 18, south of Gray. The project would begin at the intersection of S. R. 22/U. S. 129 and Jackson Street and extend in a southeasterly to easterly direction on new location, intersecting with Comslo Road. The project would continue in an easterly direction, crossing the Central of Georgia Railroad and ending at S.R. 18, approximately 1300 feet north of Cedarline Drive/C.S. 500. A minimum of 100 feet of right- of-way would be required; project length is approximately 1.10 miles. An archaeological survey consistent with the project description was conducted f or the entire length of the project corridor.
