Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project BRZLB-217 (9), Newton County, has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project corridor.

This is the replacement of the bridge over the Alcovy River on Alcovy Road (S.R. 73). The project begins approximately 450 feet west of the Alcovy River and continues to the intersection of Alcovy Road with Hamby Lane (S.R.278), where a slight alignment change will be required. The project is 0.04 mile long and will require 50 feet of R/W north of Alcovy Road, R/W to the railroad south of the road and a 50 foot temporary construction easement within the railroad R/W on the south side. Also, on Hamby Lane a 50 foot R/W will be required and a 100 foot temporary construction easement penetrating the railroad R/W.
