Abstract

The Cherokee County Government proposes to widen the existing Eagle Drive in Cherokee County, Georgia. Currently, Eagle Drive is a two-lane asphalt road connecting Bells Ferry Road and Towne Lake Parkway. Towne Lake Parkway, an existing four-lane road, provides direct access to Interstate 575 (I -575). The proposed widening project will create a four-lane asphalt road with a 20-foot vegetated median from Bells Ferry Road to the existing Eagle Drive four-lane terminus. The surrounding land use includes large residential developments and associated commercial and retail developments. Within the project location Eagle Drive currently crosses one intermittent stream and Rose Creek. The widening of Eagle Drive will require one new crossing of an intermittent stream and two wetland areas, as well as the existing stream crossing indicated above. The proposed road widening will result in 627linear feet of intermittent stream crossings and 0.15-acre of non-forested, man-induced, wetland area. Impacts to Rose Creek, a perennial stream, will be avoided with a bottomless arch culvert with footings placed outside of waters of the u.s. On-site surveys conclude Rose Creek contains the federally protected Cherokee darter (Etheostoma scottz). No other protected species are believed to occur on the project site. There are no proposed impacts to 100-year floodplain areas or significant cultural resources.
