Abstract

The Conasauga Ranger District of the Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forests is preparing an Environmental Assessment for the proposed Upper West Armuchee Creek Project (UWAC). This project involves a range of activities, including timber harvest and prescribed burning. All of the undertakings proposed within the Modified Proposed Action that have the potential to adversely affect cultural resources have been surveyed to locate cultural resources. A total of 85 archaeological sites and no historic buildings are located within the Area of Potential Effect (APE) for this project. Of these 85 sites, 74 are Not Eligible for listing on the NRHP and 11 have an Undetermined eligibility status. These unevaluated sites, 9WA101, 9WA143, 9WA152, 9WA357, 9WA359, 9WA360, 9WA364, 9WA393, 9WA399, 9WA400, and 9WA402, will be protected from disturbance by project related activities.
