Abstract

This project involves widening Jonesboro Road from 2 and 3 lanes to 4 and 5 lanes. The area the project is concerned with is north from I-75 to Forest Parkway. A maximum of 50 feet of additional right-of-way will be required. Planning: The Topographic quad map of the area (Jonesboro, Ga., U.S.G.S., 7.5') and the Clayton County map indicated that the area of Jonesboro Road to be widened does not cross any creeks and is under complete urban development. The Georgia State University site files had no sites recorded for the area. The entire survey was done by car. This section of Jonesboro Road is lined with houses, churches, small shopping centers, fast food restaurants and service stations. From I-75 to the Clayton Junior College exit, Jonesboro Road is paralleled on the east by railroad tracks. Just as the Clayton County map indicated, the field work left no doubt that the area of Jonesboro Road to be widened is completely urbanized. It is my opinion, therefore, that the State's cultural resources will not be affected by this project.
