Archaeological Assessment of Project NHS-MOO 1-00(390), Dade County, end-roll reconstruction and joint sealing on the north and southbound bridges on I-59 and the east and westbound bridges on l-24, to be completed within existing right-of-way. Pursuant to the February 2000 Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the Federal Highway Authority (FHWA), the State Historic Preservation Division of the Department of Natural Resources (SHPO), and the Georgia Department of Transportation, this project is considered an undertaking as defined in 36 CFR 800. 16(y), however, it has been determined there is no potential to affect historic properties included in or considered eligible for inclusion in the NRHP. This project will consist of reconstruction and joint sealing on the northbound (7.09N) and southbound (7.10N) bridges on 1-59 (S.R. 406) and the eastbound (3.91E) and westbound (3.92E) bridges on 1-24 (S.R.409) in Dade County. This work will consist of reconstructing portions of the end walls identified as an older design, which has started to fail under truck traffic. These areas are primarily located in the original sections built before the 1970's. The joints of these structures will be sealed at the same time and the work will be confined to the deck. End wall work will be confined to areas of the deck and superstructure at the abutments. There will be no work performed in the waterway. All work will be performed within the existing right of way.
