Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project IR-85-1(308) Coweta and Fulton Counties, has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify, and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project corridor. The proposed project would widen and reconstruct Interstate 85 beginning at SR 34 in Coweta County and extending approximately 14.5 miles to SR 74 in Fulton County. The existing highway consists of two 12-foot travel lanes in each direction, 12-foot outside shoulders, 10-foot median shoulders, and a minimum median width of 64 feet. The proposed project would widen I - 85 to one additional lane in each direction, with the new lanes to be constructed in the median. The project would also reconstruct and pave 10-foot shoulders within the median. No additional right-of- way would be required.
