In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project BRZLB-059(1), Clarke County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project corridor. This is the replacement on new alignment of the bridge over the Middle Oconee River at Mitchell Br1dge Road. The proposed project will run on new location from approximately Station 14 south of the bridge to Station 35 north of the bridge -- a distance of 2,100 feet. The new bridge will be located approximately 150 feet downstream of the existing facility between Mitchell Bridge Road and Athens North Bypass.
