Abstract

During March 1995, a cultural resources survey was conducted on 630 acres for the Maddox Gap timber sale in the Armuchee Ranger District of the Chattahoochee National Forest. Eleven stands within Compartments 903, 904, and 905 were examined and they are listed in Table 1. Twelve archeological sites and eleven artifact occurrences were recorded and are listed in Table 2. Three of the sites were recorded previously and are not repeated here. None of the sites meet the National Register criteria (36CFR60), and none are recommended for protection. This project is directed towards identifying and recording cultural resource properties, both prehistoric and historic, in compliance with Sections 106 and 110 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966, as amended, the USDA Forest Service Southern Region Programmatic Agreement, and the MOU with the Georgia SHPO and NEPA.
