Abstract

An intensive archaeological survey has been conducted for the above referenced project just north of the city limits of Gainesville. The survey included an examination of available site files and reports, a pedestrian inspection of the proposed project corridor, and non-random shovel testing along the flood plain of Limestone Creek. The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resource within the project corridor, particularly in the area of property owned by the U.S. Corps of Engineers. No significant archaeological resources were located within the proposed project corridor. Sub-surface testing along the floodplain of Limestone Creek failed to reveal the presence of buried cultural strata. It is concluded, therefore, that the project will have no effect upon any archaeological resources.
