Archaeological Assessment of a Proposed Maintenance Project along State Route 383 in Columbia County, Georgia

Abstract

The proposed project would consist of road maintenance activities along a 5.11 mile section of State Route (SR) 383 in Columbia County from I-20 to SR 104, in the vicinity of Evans (see Figure 1). These maintenance activities include the installation of handicapped-accessible ramps, milling, patching, resurfacing, striping, and placement of raised pavement markers. Striping will occur on all bridges with concrete decks. No work is proposed beyond 5 feet of the existing edge of pavement. All work would occur along SR 383 within the existing right-of-way (ROW). Curb cuts are proposed at the following 27 locations (see Table 1 and Figures 2a-2d):
