Abstract

Southern Research, Historic Preservation Consultants, Inc. has completed a Phase I cultural resources survey of eight blocks, totaling 609 acres, within Compartments 149, 150, and 152 of the Oconee Ranger District, Chattahoochee Oconee National Forest (Figure 1). Forty-one previously unidentified sites and three isolated finds were recorded, and one previously recorded site was revisited. Six sites are recommended Undetermined eligibility for the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP); the remainder of the sites are recommended not eligible, generally due to disturbance and low artifact density and diversity. All archaeological sites and their NRHP eligibility recommendations are listed in Table 1 and Isolated Finds are listed in Table 2. Locations of all cultural resources are presented in Figures 2, 3 and 4.

Fieldwork for this project was conducted from 5 February to 13 March, 2018. The field crew consisted of Gretchen Eggiman (Field Director), Michael Stenland, Elizabeth Williamson, and Matthew Wood. Laboratory processes were conducted by Misty Dunn (Lab Manager) and Susanne Newberry.
