Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project STP- 058- 1 (25), Rabun County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. The proposed project consists of the construction of an eastbound passing lane on SR 2/US 76 from just east of Lake Burton to CR 216. The proposed project would also correct the horizontal alignment on SR 2/US 76 from CR 216 to CR 94. The existing right-of-way is approximately 30.0 m (100 ft). The additional required right- of-way would vary from approximately 6.0 m to 45. 7 m (20 ft to 150 ft). The total proposed project length would be approximately 2.90 km (1.8 mi). An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed right-of- way was conducted for the entire project corridor.
