Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto. project EDS-545(45), Stephens County, has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the proposed project's area of potential environmental effect. The proposed project would widen the existing South Toccoa Bypass from SR 184 to SR 17 in Stephens County. The existing two-lane facility would be widened to four lanes with a 44-foot depressed grass median. Total length of the project is approximately 5.3 miles. Existing right-of-way varies from 279 to 312 feet. No additional right-of-way is required. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed project description was conducted for the entire length of the project corridor.
