Abstract

During the period of September 4 through 8, 2017, R.S. Webb & Associates conducted a cultural resources reconnaissance survey of an 82-acre development tract at Park 85 in Jackson County, Georgia. This study was performed under contract with Duke Realty. The project area is located west of Braselton and it is generally bounded on the southeast by Interstate (I-) 85, to the north by Jesse Cronic Road, to the northwest by a tributary of Mulberry Creek, and the southwest by private land (Figure 1). For this study, a “cultural resource” is defined as a site or feature created by human activity more than 50 years ago (e.g., old houses, historic cemeteries, archeological sites, Civil War earthworks, etc.).

The reconnaissance survey was conducted to: 1) determine if state-recognized archeological resources and/or historic structures are located within or adjacent to the project area; 2) estimate the likelihood of cultural resources being present and identify the most obvious of these within the study tract; 3) generally assess land use history of the project area; and 4) evaluate the current condition of detected cultural resources.
