Abstract

In compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act of 1966 and amendments thereto, project IR-75-2(164), Bibb County has been surveyed with respect to archaeological resources, especially those on or eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). The purpose of the survey was to locate, identify and evaluate the significance of any archaeological resources within the project corridor. The proposed project would widen existing ramps and add new ramps to the I-75 interchange at Arkwright Road north of Macon. The Atlanta bound exit ramp from 1-75 to Arkwright Road would be widened to provide for two left turn lanes south bound and one turn lane north bound. Arkwright Road would be widened to three lanes between ramp terminals. In addition, Arkwright Road would be widened to provide an auxiliary right turn lane between Riverside Drive and the 1-75 Macon bound on-ramp. No additional right-of-way would be required. An archaeological survey consistent with the proposed project was conducted.
