Abstract

Cultural resources surveys have been completed on 1,356 acres on the Brasstown Ranger District, Chattahoochee National Forest. These surveys have been conducted prior to planned land disturbing activities as timber sales, roads, and wildlife openings in Towns and Union Counties during FY91. Most of the terrain in this district is relatively steep, and the surveyed area was nearly all steep, with occasional small flats near streams and on ridgetops. Thus there were very few high probability locations surveyed, and few sites reported. The sites range from prehistoric Native American sites to historic period farmsteads. A total of 11 new cultural resources have been located and are reported here. None of these sites are considered to be significant or potentially so, and no further work is necessary on them. Cultural resources clearance is recommended for these projects.
