Abstract

During June 2 through 5, 2008, Phase II testing was conducted at Site 9FYI 73 to clarify the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) eligibility. This site was identified during the Phase I survey of the Sany America Development Site in Fayette County, Georgia. Survey findings indicated that there was potential for information on Middle to Late Archaic and Woodland period use within the Line Creek drainage. The excavation of five units during testing revealed that the site had been disturbed by agricultural activities. The artifact inventory indicated a low diversity of artifact types. The few diagnostic artifacts that were recovered were found in mixed contexts. Based on the testing results, it is unlikely that further investigations would produce significant results. Site 9FY173 is recommended ineligible for the NRHP and clearance is recommended for the site location.
