Abstract

An intensive cultural resources survey of the proposed Effingham County Development Authority Industrial Park was undertaken by Garrow & Associates, Inc., between January 3 and 13, 1995. A total of 16 cultural resources were encountered during the survey. Six of these resources were recorded as archaeological sites; 10 of the resources were isolated occurrences. Two of the sites are recommended as potentially eligible for inclusion on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Both sites are located south of the Ebenezer Creek floodplain and overlook the floodplain. One of the sites is a prehistoric site containing a Late Archaic/Early Woodland component and a possible Salzburger component. The second site represents a Salzburger homestead. Further testing is recommended for both sites. All other cultural resources encountered (four sites and 10 isolated occurrences) are recommended as not eligible for inclusion in the NRHP. No further management consideration is recommended for these resources.
