Abstract

The proposed project consists of the relocation of existing U.S. 27 on the west side of the Chickamauga-Chattanooga National Military Park in Walker-Catoosa Counties (see Figure 4). The preferred alternative would begin just north of the intersection with County Road (CR) 144 and would extend northwestward on new location for a distance of approximately 5.1 miles (see Figure 5).

Beginning just north of the U.S. 27 intersection with CR 144, the alignment would extend northwest on new location crossing Tubb Road/CR 342 at-grade. The alignment would continue northwestwardly crossing Wilder Road/CR 710 near the intersection of Wilder and Osburn Road/CR 442. From this point the alignment would remain in a northwestward direction, intersecting at-grade Lytle Road/CR 255 and then Davis Road. At Davis Road the alignment would shift to a northward direction and would continue northward to just past Long Hollow Road. The proposed intersection with Long Hollow Road would be at-grade. From the intersection of Long Hollow Road the preferred alternative would continue directly northward crossing the Central of Georgia Railroad and would extend within the park along the western boundary for approximately 4200 feet. At that point, the preferred alternative would turn northeastward through the park crossing McFarland Gap Road, CR 298 and CR 297. The alignment would then intersect S.R. 2 with a trumpet type interchange near CR 289.
