Abstract

This archaic stone workshop is on a long ridge paralleling the Etowah River and a state highway cuts through the site. The site is eroding and shells (periwinkle) and flint chips are found. To the cast the land is in pasture; the western part is wooded and a house sits about 200 feet to the north. The importance of this site is in its potential for revealing information about the cultural history of this section of northwest Georgia. Because it has not been excavated, the full significance and nature of this site cannot be evaluated at this time. It is certainly significant to the understanding of the cultural history of the immediate area and this significance probably extends to the entire northwest Georgia region. All archeological sites in southern Bartow County are endangered by rapidly expanding industrial and commercial interests.
