Abstract

Environmental Corporation of America (ECA) has completed an Archaeological Assessment for the federal undertaking at the subject site. The subject site includes a proposed approximate 100-foot by 100-foot (30-meter by 30-meter) telecommunications facility and a proposed approximate 1,600-foot long by 40-foot wide (488-meter by 12-meter) access/utility easement. The proposed telecommunications facility would include a 320-foot tall (overall height) self-supporting lattice telecommunications structure and associated ground level support equipment. The subject site is located at 3926 Studstill Road, Valdosta, Lowndes County, Georgia. This Archaeological Assessment was conducted in order to ascertain whether the proposed undertaking, on the project site, might directly or indirectly affect cultural resources, if any such resources exist. Through our review of available cultural records and databases, we found one previously recorded archaeological site (9LW111) and two survey reports (6718 and 7051) within our standard 1-mile background research radius but outside the APE for direct effects. During the course of the field survey portion of this archaeological assessment, no archaeological cultural resources were encountered. We conclude that the undertaking would not affect any historic or prehistoric archaeological resources that are listed in or eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). Therefore, for archaeological cultural resources, we recommend a finding of No Effect for the proposed undertaking at the project site.
