Abstract

TerraXplorations, Inc. (TerraX) of Tuscaloosa, Alabama was contracted by Georgia Transmission Corporation of Tucker, Georgia to conduct a cultural resource survey for the proposed Walk-Ikey Creek 115 kV Substation P79325 project in Terrell County, Georgia. The Phase I survey was performed on September 29 and October 8, 2015 by Kenny Pearce under the supervision of Jonathan Daniel Lowrey, Principal Investigator. The purpose of this study was to determine if any prehistoric or historic properties exist within the limits of the project area, and if so, to document and assess each based on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP) criteria. The lead Federal Agency for this project is the U.S. Department of Agriculture's Rural Utilities Service.

The project area, as identified by Georgia Transmission Corporation, is an approximate 7.002-acre tract located roughly three miles west of downtown Dawson and 0.26 miles north of U.S. Highway 82 at the intersection of County Road 3 I and a transmission line corridor. The proposed project will involve the construction of a 115 kV substation. The subject property can be found on the 1973 Dawson, Georgia and the 1972 Shellman, Georgia USGS 7 .5 ' series topographic quadrangles (Figure 1). Photographs depicting the present state of the land within the project area are provided (Figures 2-5).
