Abstract

The City of Toccoa, Georgia, is proposing to construct a gas pipeline from Toccoa to Franklin, North Carolina. Jordan, Jones & Goulding, Inc. is the engineering firm that will design and construct the line. The gas line will be 8 - 10 inches in diameter, that, for most of the route, will follow the shoulder of existing highways. However, at the town of Tallulah Falls in Rabun County the gas line will follow a relatively short stretch (1 km--3200 ft) of the abandoned Tallulah Railroad (Figure 1). Georgia Power Company owns the property along this portion of the route. The railroad is historic, built between 1904 and 1906. It was abandoned in 1961.
