Abstract

TerraXplorations, Inc. (TerraX) of Mobile, Alabama was contracted by Trileaf Corporation of Maitland, Florida to conduct a Phase I archaeological direct effects and visual effects survey for the proposed Buford 285 Relo-A cellular tower in Dekalb County, Georgia. The Area of Potential Effects (APE) for direct effects includes a 1,711 square foot fenced compound with an existing 123 foot monopole tower. The tower and compound are being relocated slightly to the northeast to allow for the Interstate 285 right-of-way expansion. A 20 foot wide gravel access and utility easement provides access to the tower site. The property is owned by MARTA. The total area of the direct effects APE, consisting of the compound and access and utility easement, amounts to 0.07 acres.

Background research and the field survey followed guidelines established under the FCC Programmatic Agreement. No NRHP listed or eligible properties or archaeological sites are located within the 0.5 mile APE. During the course of the field survey portion of this archaeological assessment, no archaeological cultural resources were encountered. No previously recorded archaeological sites or historic resources are located within the 0.5-mile radius of the current study area. As no historic properties are located within the APE, TerraX recommends clearance for this project in regard to cultural resource concerns.
