Abstract

Southeastern Archeological Services, Inc., conducted an intensive archeological survey of a proposed 6.5 ha (16 ac) tract of land on which the city of Jefferson, in Jackson County, Georgia, wishes to expand its wastewater treatment facility. The Georgia Historic Preservation Division requested an archeological survey of the tract. The tract is almost completely wooded and was investigated by visual inspection and shovel testing. One site, 9JK222, was discovered. This is a sparse prehistoric lithic scatter consisting of three quartz flake fragments in two shovel tests. We recommend that this site is not eligible for inclusion in the National Register of Historic Places. Thus, we conclude that the proposed undertaking will have no adverse effects to significant (eligible) archeological sites.
