Abstract

The survey described here was designed to identify evidence of archeological sites in the area of an intersection realignment in the Community of Warthen Historical District, Washington County. The project would replace the current "Y''-type configuration with a safer, 90-degree "T"-type intersection.

Reconnaissance and shovel testing within the small, proposed area of potential effect (APE) revealed that the existing right-of-way is completely graded and only a central area that might contain archeological deposits.

No surface artifacts were observed there, and two shovel tests excavated in the central area were both negative except for modern debris. These observations support our recommendation that the proposed project as currently planned will have no affect upon archeological sites and that no additional work is needed.
