Abstract

This report documents the results of a cultural resources survey performed by Paleo West, for CBRE, Inc., of the proposed KENNE _027 small cell, located at 1380 Ernest W. Barnett Parkway NW, in the City of Kennesaw, Georgia in Cobb County, within the Marietta (I 984) USGS 7.5-mintue quadrangle. The proposed project depends on a permit issued by the Federal Communications Commission (FCC); therefore, the project is a federal undertaking requiring compliance with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.

The proposed project consists of the installation of a new 32-foot-tall (9.6-m) commscope metal pole with a total height of35 feet (10.7 m). The proposed small cell would be located off a sideway/bike lane right-of-way adjacent to Ernest W. Barnett Parkway NW. The proposed area of potential effects (APE) for direct effects, comprising the foundation of the new commscope metal pole, would encompass less than 0.001 acres.

Paleo West conducted this cultural resource fieldwork to identify any historic properties (cultural or paleontological resources that are listed in or eligible for listing on the National Register of Historic Places) that could potentially be impacted by the proposed undertaking. No historic properties have been recorded previously in the Direct APE. The proposed cell tower would blend into existing infrastructure and would not cause marked change to the existing viewshed. Therefore, Paleo West recommends that no historic properties are present within the APEs for direct or visual effects. This leads to an overall finding of no historic properties affected by the proposed project, with no further cultural resource work needed.
