Abstract

State Route 25 (SR 25)/ US 17 (Ocean Highway) would be widened to a four lone divided highway and improved from the intersection of Yacht Drive north to the intersection of State Route 99/Grants Ferry Rood in two phases. The existing typical section consists of two 3.6 meter (m) (12-foot [ft]) lanes with 3-m (10-ft) shoulders 2.4-m (8-ft) grossed. The corridor hos a limited number of right turn lanes and no left turn lanes. The posted speed limit is 88.5 kilometers per hour (kph) (55 miles per hour [mph]). Widening would occur mostly west of existing, to include four 3.6-m ( 12-ft) travel lanes and improved to include a 7 .3-m (24-ft) raised median with 3-m (10-ft) rural shoulders (1.8 m (6 ft]) and 2.5 centimeters (cm)(6 inches (in)) paved, auxiliary turn lanes at public street intersections and median openings, and a 0.8 kilometer (km) (0.5 mile [mi)) roundabout at the intersection of State Route 25/US 17 and State Route 99. There are two existing bridge structures in the project corridor: Thornhill Creek Bridge and Wally’s Leg Branch Bridge. Both existing bridge structures ore 24.6 m (81 ft) in length by 10.3 m (34 ft) in width. Each existing bridge would be replaced with a new 4-lone structure, carrying both northbound and southbound traffic. Phase 1, PI 532650-, would begin at the intersection of Yacht Drive (MP 17 .92) at STA 502+00 to Horry Driggers Boulevard (MP 21 .68) at ST A 711 +99 .99 for a total length of 6.4 km (3.98 mi). Phase 2, PI to be determined, would begin at the intersection of Horry Driggers Boulevard (MP 21.69) at STA 712+00.00 and end at the project terminus of State Route 99/Grants Ferry Rood (MP 23.80) at STA 830+90.00 for a total length of 3.62 km (2.25 mi). The existing right-of-way (ROW) varies from 21.3-76.2 m (70-250 ft). The proposed ROW is expected to be between 60.9-76.2 m (200-250 ft).
