PHASE IA ARCHAEOLOGICAL RECONNAISSANCE & RECORDS CHECK FOR THE PROPOSED GAC055 MONOPOLE SITE IN SAVANNAH, CHATHAM COUNTY, GEORGIA.

Abstract

In response to a request from Ignite Wireless, Inc., RESCOM Environmental Corp (RESCOM)., has completed a Phase Ia archaeological reconnaissance and records check for a proposed monopole site in Chatham County, Georgia (Figure 1). The project is located in Savannah at 32°04'09.0"N 81°04'55.S"W as seen on the Savannah, GA, USGS 7.5' topographical quadrangle (Figure 2). The project area measures 62-ft by 30-ft (- 0.40- acre in total) and consists of a previously disturbed location partially overlapping an abandoned rail line and demolished building (Figures 3 & 4). An archaeological records check conducted on behalf of RESCOM by the UGA Laboratory of Archaeology via the Georgia Archaeological Site File (GASP) shows no archaeological sites overlapping the project area. Fieldwork was conducted on April 28, 2021 by RESCOM personnel, under the supervision of Andrew Smith M.A., Ball State University 2010, Principal Investigator and Secretary of Interior qualified professional archaeologist. This report details the results of the records check and Phase Ia field reconnaissance and presents the conclusions and recommendations of RESCOM concerning any additional archaeological investigations.
