Abstract

To improve safety and traffic flow, GDOT proposes to improve the intersection of SR 74 at SR 42 with a one-lane roundabout with 12-foot lanes in both directions along SR 74. SR 74 is classified as a Rural Minor Arterial, and SR 42 is a Rural Major Collector. At present, the SR 74/SR 42 intersection operates with minor approach stop control. SR 74 is not controlled at the intersection, whereas SR 42 is stop controlled with a yield condition and island separation for the right-turn movement on both approaches. The existing right-of-way (ROW) along SR 74 measures from 99 to 101 feet wide and the existing ROW along SR 42 measures from 89 to100 feet wide. Information on the proposed ROW is unknown. New South Associates (NSA) surveyed the original ESB in February 2021 and returned to the field in May 2021 due to the addition of the proposed rumble strips that extended the proposed limits of the project.
