Abstract

The proposed project consists of the replacement of the State Route (SR) 8 bridge over Jackson Creek in the City of Lilburn in Gwinnett County. It is expected that the existing bridge (135-0001-0) would be replaced on the existing alignment utilizing staged construction to maintain traffic. The existing bridge consists of four 3.6-meter (m) (12-foot [ft]) wide travel lanes and a 4.2 m (14 ft) wide flush median with 0.6 m (2 ft) wide gutters and 1.8 m (6 ft) wide sidewalks. The proposed bridge would consist of four 3.6 m (12 ft) wide travel lanes, two in each direction, with a 4.2 m (14 ft) wide flush median, 0.6 m (2 ft) wide gutters, and 1.6 m (5.5 ft) wide sidewalks on each side for pedestrians. The design for the proposed project is being developed concurrently with the environmental analysis, and additional details of the proposed bridge design are not yet known. The roadway typical section consists of four 3.6 m (12 ft) wide travel lanes, two in each direction, with 3 m (10 ft) wide urban shoulders including curb, gutter, and 1.5 m (5 ft) wide sidewalks. Existing right-of-way (ROW) varies from 41.1 to 57.9 m (135 to 190 ft), and the proposed right-of-way would vary from 41.1 to 57.9 m (135 to 190 ft). The total project length is approximately 0.9 kilometer (km) (0.6 mile [mi]).
