Abstract

In accordance with a contract agreement between the U.S.D.A., Soil Conservation Service and the Department of Anthropology, University of Georgia, archaeological and historical investigations are currently being conducted in the Middle Oconee - Walnut Creek Watershed. The report will outline the results of said investigations at two flood retardation structures, #3 and #16, where construction is ready to begin. Field work was conducted by the author on August 14th and 15th 1975 and consisted of foot survey of the project areas complemented by subsurface testing in nonrandomly selected areas where archaeological sites were thought to be buried beneath recent sediment.
