Abstract

The project consists of replacing the existing bridge on State Route (SR) 128 over Horse Creek, approximately 12.9 kilometers (km) (8 miles [mi]) northeast of the City of Ideal, Macon County, Georgia (Figure 1). The existing bridge is 45.7 meters (m) (150 feet [ft]) long and 7.6 m (24.9 ft) wide, with two 3.4 m (11.2 ft) wide travel lanes. The proposed 54.9 m (180 ft) long by 11.9 m (39 ft) wide bridge would consist of two 3.7 m (12 ft) travel lanes and 1.8 m (6 ft) shoulders. The proposed project involves permanent realignment of the SR 128 bridge over Horse Creek to the east while maintaining traffic on the existing bridge during construction. The approaching roadway would include two 3.7 m (12 ft) travel lanes and 1.8 m (6 ft) rural shoulders, of which 0.6 m (2 ft) are paved. The existing right-of-way (ROW) is 30.5 m (100 ft), and the proposed ROW would be a maximum of 54.9 m (180 ft) at the proposed bridge. The approximate project length is 0.8 km (0.5 mi).

Edwards-Pitman, Incorporated (EP) originally surveyed the project in June 2018 (Cook 2018). No cultural materials were identified during this 2018 survey. Since this time, the project limits along SR 128 have increased (see Figure 1). Along SR 128, project limits extend 93.3 meters (m) (306.1 feet [ft]) to the northwest and 75.3 m (247 Ft) southeast of the previously surveyed area within the existing ROW.
