Abstract

This report summarizes the results of an archaeological survey within the FAA Recreation Area at Lake Sidney Lanier in Forsyth County, Georgia (Figure 1). This survey was conducted on a priority basis as part of the Lake Sidney Lanier Cultural Resources Survey and Inventory (Contract No. DACW01-78-C-0102), a project that entails the survey and evaluation of prehistoric and historic sites within the 22,310 hectares (58,007 acres) encompassed by the Lake Lanier Project boundaries. The study area is located in portions of Hall, Gwinnett9 Forsyth, and Dawson Counties, Georgia. The tract surveyed in the FAA Recreation Area is approximately 22 hectares (55 acres) in size. It is located on a peninsula jutting into the lake a short distance northeast of Buford Dam. The survey was conducted during May, 1979 by Tom Gresham and John Doolin. Materials were analyzed by John Strnad.
