In response to a request from Ignite Wireless, Inc., RESCOM Environmental Corp (RESCOM)., has completed a Phase Ia archaeological reconnaissance and records check for a proposed telecommunications tower site in Jackson County, Georgia (Figure l). The project is located northwest of Athens at 34° 00'57. l "N 83°29'04.6"W as seen on the Nicholson, GA, USGS 7.5' topographical quadrangle (Figure 2). The project area measures 80-ft by 20-ft for a proposed monopole site with a 60-ft by 18-ft access road (-0.06-acre in total) and consists of a previously disturbed, graded and partially graveled location directly north of a railroad embankment (Figure 3).

An archaeological records check conducted on behalf of RESCOM by the UGA Laboratory of Archaeology via the Georgia Archaeological Site File (GASF) shows no archaeological sites overlapping the project area. Fieldwork was conducted on June 24, 2021 by archaeologist Stephen Nazian, University of South Florida 2008, under the supervision of Jamie Cochran-Smith M.A., Ball State University 2011, Principal Investigator and Secretary of Interior qualified professional archaeologist.

This report details the results of the records check and Phase Ia field reconnaissance and presents the conclusions and recommendations of RESCOM concerning any additional archaeological investigations.
