Abstract

In response to a request from Ignite Wireless, Inc., RESCOM Environmental Corp (RESCOM) has completed a Phase Ia archaeological reconnaissance and records check for a proposed telecommunications tower site in Savannah, Chatham County, Georgia (Figure 1). The project is located northwest of Bates Ave at 32° 02'38.9"N 81° 07'37.9"W, as seen on the Garden City, GA, USGS 7.5' topographical quadrangle (Figure 2). The project area consists of a wooded lot measuring 50-ft by 50-ft for a telecommunications tower with a 30-ft by 77-ft utility and access easement that extends to the southeast; approximately 0.12- acre in total area (Figure 3).

An archaeological records check conducted on behalf of RESCOM by the UGA Laboratory of Archaeology via the Georgia Archaeological Site File (GASF) shows no archaeological sites overlapping the project area. Fieldwork was conducted on August 26, 2021 by qualified professional archaeologist Stephen Nazian, University of South Florida 2008, under the supervision of Andrew Smith M.A., Ball State University 2010, Principal Investigator and Secretary of Interior qualified professional archaeologist.

This report details the results of the records check and Phase Ia field reconnaissance and presents the conclusions and recommendations of RESCOM concerning any additional archaeological investigations.
