Abstract

Archaeological sites 9GE1227 and 9GE1228 were the subject of archaeological test excavations by Chattahoochee-Oconee National Forest personnel in 1989. A report was never completed and Forest staff were unaware of this work until 2019. Upon this discovery an analysis of the excavated material was completed. No photographs or sketch maps have been located. Site 9GE1227 represents a Lamar farmstead occupied during the late 16th century during the late Dyar phase (A.D. 1520-1580) or early Bell phase (A.D. 1580-1670), along with evidence for a sparse Middle Archaic occupation. Site 9GE1228 represents a Lamar farmstead occupied during the Bell phase (A.D. 1580-1670), along with evidence for a sparse Early Archaic occupation.
