Abstract

The Vogtle Electric Generating Plant (VEGP) Transmission Line (TL) includes the Vogtle-Scherer 500 KV Line Route (V-STL) which begins at the VEGP and traverses westward through Burke, Jefferson, Washington, Putnam, Hancock, Baldwin, Jones, and Monroe Counties, Georgia. This route is approximately 149-miles long and divided into two subsections: The Scherer-WalJace Darn section and WalJace Darn-VEGP.

For the present project, Georgia Power Company (GPC) requested Brockington and Associates Inc. (Brockington) complete a due-diligence Assessment of Effects (AOE) for planned vegetation clearing activities within the Wallace Darn-VEGP TL segment adjacent to the historic Francis Plantation (Figures 1 and 2). Francis Plantation (9WG29) is an antebellum historic complex previously listed on the National Register of Historic Places (NRHP). GPC has plans for vegetation clearing within the TL corridor, though the precise extent of significant subsurface deposits was previously unknown. This AOE included archaeological assessment of 9WG29 archaeological deposits within the VEGP TL Right-of Way (ROW) and a current condition assessment of extant historic buildings.
