Abstract

Between November 28 and December 1, 1995, New South Associates conducted a Phase I archaeological survey of the six mile corridor of the proposed Spring Place Bypass, located in Murray County. This report provides a prehistoric and historic background for the area and completely chronicles the results of the archaeological survey. A pedestrian survey of the approximately six mile corridor utilized a 30 meter shovel test interval along a single transect as well as visual inspection of any exposed ground surface encountered. The survey located two sites, one prehistoric with a limited historic component and one historic. The sites are not recommended as eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places and no further study of the sites is recommended.
